Flora of the Tropics: Torch Ginger

Flora of the Tropics: Torch Ginger

One of the three installations of Gin Long’s tropical flowers series.
In Flora of the Tropics: Torch Ginger, Gin Long creates his impression of the Etlingera elatior, more commonly known as the Torch Ginger, alluding to the flower’s multi-layered shape. As useful as it is beautiful, the flower is an important ingredient in many southeast asian recipes.

The artist captures the exquisite reddish-pink of its petals rimmed with white. Using deeper shades of red, he then brings out the beauty of it natural layers, creating the illusion of depth and light.

He carefully composes the background with supporting colours, using geometric rectangular forms to give the artwork a contemporary twist to the floral art genre.

You will not find another more avid fan of Super Mario than Gin Long. Like how Mario has impressive jumping ability, Gin Long has good observation skills. He is able to notice proportions of objects and draw them rather precisely. Gin Long is very meticulous and careful in each and every stroke of his line art. As a new and imaginative student, there is unlimited potential awaiting him as he continues to learn and improve in his art.

Rainbow Centre serves persons with disabilities from birth to adulthood, enabling them with skills, supports and resources to gain independence and lead meaningful lives.
